Past Season

Listed below are past seasons Illinois hockey players that have competed on various levels of Team USA

Men’s Team USA

John Moore from Winnetka was part of a Bronze medal winning effort last spring.  John did not play college hockey, but went from juniors (Chicago Steel to Ontario Hockey League) and then signed a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Since then he has played with the NY Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, and finally this year with the NJ Devils

World Men’s Juniors

US Men defeat Sweden 8-3 to take the Bronze Medal.  Christian Dvorak had 3 goals and 5 assists.   Louie Belpedio of Miami of Ohio  had a goal and an assist.

World U18 Men’s Team

Illinois also had 3 players on the U18 team that won a Gold Medal last spring.  Clayton Keller who is on the World Junior Team above and was drafted by Arizona, Christian Fischer who bypassed Notre Dame to sign with the Arizona Coyotes and now plays for the Windsor Spitfires, and Michael Floodstrand who is playing college hockey at Harvard.

Men’s World Junior “A” Challenge

Junior “A” is the training ground for future College and NHL players.  The Championships just completed with USA winning ithe Bronze.  Two players from Illinois are Tanner Laczynski from Shorewood who currently plays for Chicago Steele in the USHL and has committed to Ohio State, and William Knierim from Skokie who plays for Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL and has committed to Miami of Ohio.

Women’s Team USA World Championships

Team USA won the Gold in the latest World Championships last spring.  Kendall Coyne from Palos Heights currently plays for Northeastern has played for many levels of Team USA.  See further information about this years achievements at Northeastern.

Women’s Olympics

Two Illinois players played in the last Olympics.  Kendall Coyne and Megan Bozak from Buffalo Grove.  Kendall is mentioned above.  Megan graduated from the University of Minn in 2013 after having an outstanding NCAA Ice Hockey career.

Four Nations Cup

Both Megan and Kendall also played on Championship team last month in Sundsvall Sweden.

Women’s U18 Team

Women’s Under 18 team wins gold by defeating Canada 3-2 in overtime for the win.  See the story here.  There are two future players on the Under 18 Team USA.  Jesse Compher from Northbrook and Alex Gulstene from Evanston.  Both players figured in the victories.  Alex Gulstene was selected the top US Goalie for the tournament by her coaches.
